Localizing Proprietary XML Formats

This 50-minute webinar explores best practices for designing localization-friendly XML formats and translating content in proprietary XML-based formats.

The webinar provides hands-on, practical information for XML designers, content authors and localization professionals having to deal with translating content contained in proprietary XML-based formats.

Most of the formats used and localized today are XML-based, and thanks to the capabilities of standards such as XLIFF or DITA, provide for a smooth and efficient localization process, leading to high levels of content leverage. At the same time, there is an ever-increasing occurrence of proprietary XML-based formats, such as those used in a wide range of CMS systems, which are much less amenable to efficient localization.

This webinar provides actionable insights into how to work with such formats. Specifically, it addresses the following:

  • How to identify, extract and process localizable content in proprietary formats
  • Parser modifications, creating new parsers or XML pre/post-processing
  • How to identify internal and external elements
  • How to handle meta-information
  • How to protect elements in embedded markup content
  • How to process multilingual files
  • How to handle pre-formatted content and white-spaces
  • Recommendations for encoding and bidirectional languages
